NOVEMBER, 2006 NEWSLETTER
| Peakfinder Updates
Three excellent books have recently been published that will be enjoyed by all in the mountain community, all three published by this site's sponsor, Rocky Mountain Books. Glen Boles, "My Mountain Album" contains black and white photographs and drawings by one Canada's most respected climbers. Glen has always been available to assist Peakfinder by supplying photographs and helping to identify a number of mountains we were having difficulty figuring out -truly a mountain gentleman. David Finch and Jennifer Hamblin have combined to author "The Diva and the Rancher," the story of Norma Piper and George Pocaterra. Pocaterra Ridge, Mount Pocaterra, and Elpoca Mountain are directly connected to George and Piper Pass to Norma. Photos of these feature and related information is available on the website. For an introduction to Arthur Coleman, go to the Mount Coleman page and then link to Coleman's biography. His book, "The Canadian Rockies -New and Old Trails" is a classic of Canadian Rockies literature and has been reprinted. Additional details regarding these books is available by clicking on "The Bookstore" on the main page. Congratulations as well to Gillian and Tony Daffern upon their being honoured with the 2006 Summit of Excellence Award. Primarily as a service to the mountain community, Tony made www.peakfinder.com's presence on the Internet possible and since then has regularly worked towards improvements. Gillian has contributed through allowing many of her photographs to be used. There are about 3000 photos on the website and sometimes errors are made in their captions. Several Peakfinder users have located errors and advised us so that they can be corrected. Please let us know if you find an error. If you have a favourite mountain photo or any information about the peaks of the Canadian Rockies that you would like included in Peakfinder please contact <dave@peakfinder.com>. Please note that all of the previous newsletters have been archived and are available on the site. If you're interested in esoteric lists, unusual mountain names, etcetera, browse through the earlier issues. |
