June's Unusual Canadian Rockies Name

SEA LION MOUNTAIN
This mountain was named by Arthur O. Wheeler in 1916 after members of the Alberta-British Columbia Boundary Survey thought that the mountain resembled a sea lion.
Read about Arthur Wheeler in the "Mountain People" section and enter "Sea Lion Mountain" to learn more about the mountain.

Look who's honoured in the Canadian Rockies

ELLIOTT BARNES JR.
Elliott Barnes Sr. had a horse ranch in the Saskatchewan Valley which he named Kadonna Tinda (Stoney for Windy Plains). In 1906, when he was only eight years old, Elliott Barnes Jr. climbed the mountain above the ranch and it was named "Elliott Peak" in his honour the following year.
