JANUARY 2002 NEWSLETTER
| Peakfinder Updates New ways of selecting groups of mountains from Peakfinder's mountain database are now available. It is now possible to select all the peaks that are located on either side of a particular valley such as the Bow Valley. One can also select all the mountains in a particular hiking area such as the Tonquin Valley. For those interested in the names and naming history of the peaks of the Canadian Rockies, a "Peaks by Name Category" is now available and will, for example, list all the mountains who's names have a connection to animals. By entering a particular 1:50,000 NTS map grid, all the mountains on that map may now be isolated. Teachers are beginning to use the website and there is now a special section that provides ideas as to how educators can use the peaks of the Canadian Rockies to connect to curriculum content and various projects related to the mountains. More will be developed in this section over the next few months. Please note that all of the previous newsletters have been archived and are available on the site. If you're interested in other esoteric lists, unusual mountain names, etc. look through the earlier issues. |
