DECEMBER 2001 NEWSLETTER
| Peakfinder Updates Peakfinder continues to progress, this month with the addition of seventy or so additional photos. Most of these are courtesy of the widely-travelled Alan Kane. We particularly appreciate his spectacular pictures of some of the high, remote peaks he has visited such as Mount Alberta, Tsar Mountain, Tusk Peak, Mount Shackleton, Mount Mummery, and Pic Tordu. (Take a look at this one!) Photos of Mount Harrison and Lunette Peak will complete the collection for the 11,000 footers. I can't believe I don't have one of my own of Lunette Peak. Mount Harrison, the last of the 11,000 footers to be named, may be a challenge as I gather it is rarely visited. We've started a "LINKS" section. One is to the British Columbia government's database of geographic names. Another is to Alan Kane's website. Teachers are beginning to use the website and there is now a special section that provides ideas as to how educators can use the peaks of the Canadian Rockies to connect to curriculum content and various projects related to the mountains. More will be developed in this section over the next few months. Please note that all of the previous newsletters have been archived and are available on the site. If you're interested in other esoteric lists, unusual mountain names, etc. look through the earlier issues. |
